Youth Mental Health First Aid (Manjimup)

Learn the skills and gain confidence to assist young people experiencing mental health problems.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults working or living with young people between 12 and 18 years. This training is a 2-day course and both days must be fully completed to receive a certificate.

Mental health issues can often emerge in adolescence or early adulthood and it is important to identify the signs and symptoms early to ensure the young person is properly supported.

The YMHFA course teaches adults who have frequent contact with youth, such as parents, guardians, school staff, sport coaches and youth workers, how to assist young people with emerging mental health issues or in a mental health crisis. Participants will learn about adolescent development and the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, how and where to get help, and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.

Course topics cover:

o Depression o Anxiety problems

o Psychosis,

o Eating disorders, and

o Substance use problems
